Please don’t use a $3,000 transaction to learn about Bitcoin. Bitcoin is great if you know what you’re doing and are careful, but if you make a mistake often times the money is unrecoverable. It’s best to learn with a microtransaction or two worth less than a few dollars, that way if you make a mistake it’s no big deal. Transferring money with Bitcoin is not free either, you’ll pay a fee when you try to transfer the Bitcoin into your bank account and depending on the service it could take a couple of days to clear as well. If you already have the check coming it’s probably your safest bet for the time being.
