The Marquette Golden Eagles will host the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon in a matchup of two of the top teams in the Big East. Marquette is coming off of two consecutive losses to fellow Big East opponents over the last week.
Villanova has won five games in a row and has started Big East play with a 2-0 start. The Wildcats are a 4.5 point favorite in this game with the total being set at 142.5 points. The game tips off at 7:00 PM.
Villanova looks to continue road dominance
The Villanova Wildcats have already played six games away from this season and are 5-1 on the season straight up. They are 4-2 against the spread in those games.
The Wildcats are led by one of the best quartets in the nation in big man Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and guard Collin Gillespie, Justin Moore and Caleb Daniels. All of whom average double digit points per game and shoot at least 42% from the floor.
Villanova currently rates as the 351st slowest team in the nation while also ranking fourth in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency. They aren’t quite playing Tony Bennett ball but they are doing a heck of an impression.
The Wildcats are 5-3 against the spread on the season and 4-1 ATS during their current five game winning streak. The total has gone under in four of their six games away from home this season.
The Golden Eagles are currently grounded
Marquette started the season as one of the surprise teams in the nation with a dramatic tip-in win over top ten Wisconsin at the buzzer and a victory over Creighton. They have dropped two games in a row but you should not be fooled by the 5-4 record as Coach Wojo has played one of the most difficult schedules in the nation thus far.
Marquette is led by senior wing forward Koby McEwen (15.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game) and youngsters DJ Carton (12 points, 3.4 assists) and Dawson Garcia (13.1 points, 6.6 rebounds per game). Carton, a transfer from Ohio State, appears to be living up to his prep hype after a somewhat underwhelming freshman campaign in Columbus.
Marquette is just 4-5 against the spread and just 3-3 ATS at home. The total has gone under in five of their nine games this season.
Villanova (-4.5) at Marquette – Total: 142.5
Bovada has Villanova favored on the road by 4.5 points with the total at 142.5 points. The total has risen by one point since opening. Villanova is (-200) on the moneyline while Marquette is (+170).
One of the things you always look for in college sports is home dogs. However, in the COVID era, home court doesn’t seem to matter as much. That said, Marquette, on average, covers the spread by 1.0 points per game this season. Despite that trend, take Villanova to cover on the road. They have the better coach, the experience and the guard play to cover the points on the road.
