- Everton lost just one of their last 15 Premier League games at Goodison Park.
- Man Utd lost each of their last two fixtures against Arsenal and Istanbul Başakşehir respectively.
- Everton have yet to keep a clean sheet at home this season.
- Everton are unbeaten in three previous meetings with Man Utd.
Toffees looking to bounce back
Without a win in three Premier League fixtures overall, Everton’s early-season momentum has wilted in recent weeks, and the Toffees enter their lunchtime skirmish with Man Utd on Saturday on the back of successive defeats.
With the suspended Richarlison’s absence key, Carlo Ancelotti’s men were roundly outplayed in a 2-0 reverse at Southampton, before a late Callum Wilson strike denied them a share of the spoils against Newcastle at St. James’ Park.
This weekend however, the Blues should be strengthened by the return to fitness of creative midfielder James Rodriguez and Lucas Digne – who makes his comeback from a one-game ban – and an upturn in fortunes looks possible against a Man Utd team in disarray.
Crunch time for Solskjaer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes charge of what is possibly the biggest game of his United tenure on Saturday, and with the pressure on the Norwegian intensifying, another defeat could push him closer to what feels like an inevitable exit.
United – who are languishing near the foot of the table – have been performing miserably domestically this term, and while good displays in the Champions League have offered a salve of sorts, the Red Devils lost their continental feel good factor in mid-week.
Solskjaer’s ailing charges were turned over in embarrassing fashion by Istanbul Başakşehir on Wednesday evening, in a 2-1 defeat that allowed the Turkish outfit to register their first even win in the competition.
Everton look superb value
With Manchester United at a crossroads and managerial upheaval looking imminent, Everton have a huge opportunity to harness home advantage on Saturday, and the odds on a Toffees victory this weekend look too valuable to pass up.
Everton – who were unbeaten in each of their last three meetings with United – will be smelling blood at Goodison Park this week, and against a visiting team running low on confidence and energy following their disappointing mid-week exertions, three points look attainable.
With four wins from five games on their own patch in all competitions since the summer, Everton have been a formidable force at Goodison Park this term, and city rivals and current champions Liverpool were the only team to avoid defeat at that venue since the fresh campaign kicked-off.
United’s away form had made for impressive reading before their mid-week aberration, though their performances in their last two assignments against Arsenal and Istanbul Başakşehir were so abject, that it’s difficult to see how they can spark a recovery.
Alongside advising a home win for Saturday’s game, a 2-1 Everton correct score prediction is also favoured. The Toffees are averaging 2.1 goals per 90 minutes this term, though clean sheets at the other end have been rare.
Carlo Ancelotti’s bustling Blues are still searching for their first shutout of the season at Goodison Park, and United – who notched in nine of their 11 competitive fixtures since September, should be able to impact the scoresheet with a consolation effort.
Anytime goalscorer betting tip: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Dominic Clavert-Lewin has been remarkably consistent for Everton this season, and having plundered eight goals in seven Premier League appearances for the Toffees, the recently capped England star is the Blues’ danger man again on Saturday.
Calvert-Lewin scored Everton’s goal when the Toffees drew 1-1 with United at Goodison Park in last year’s corresponding fixture, and against a Red Devils’ side that continues to look calamitous in defensive areas this term, the 23-year-old should have opportunities to showcase his lethal finishing.
