By way of a short press release, DraftKings announced that it had launched a WV online casino in association with Hollywood Casino at Charlestown Races. Customers can now download the app for both iOS and Android devices.
DraftKings does it again
The Mountain State joins Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania as the only states with online casinos. From a company perspective, this marks the third state where the DraftKings Sportsbook and DraftKings Casino are now live. Players can find both apps in PA and NJ.
Some WV features include:
- A catalog of over 300 slots
- 60 individual table games
- Bets starting at $0.01
- Live-dealer tab (not available yet)
A brief recap of West Virginia online gambling
West Virginia legalized online casinos in 2019 with the passage of the WV Lottery Interactive Wagering Act. The bill authorized online poker and casino games for customers 21 and older who are within state lines. Land-based properties, like Hollywood Casino, can apply for one of the five available permits.
The other four casinos are:
- Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort
- The Casino Club at The Greenbrier
- Mardi Gras Casino & Resort
- Wheeling Island Hotel
Licenses will cost $250,000 and can be renewed for $100,000 every five years. Additionally, the state will tax online gambling revenue at 15%.
For now, the only other company expected to launch an online casino product in West Virginia is Flutter, via FanDuel Casino. With online gambling picking up momentum across the US, it’s no surprise that DraftKings and FanDuel are again the first to the table.
