Berks County Illegal Casino Raided in Pennsylvania
An amusement lounge run by Windfall Amusements was recently raided by Pennsylvania state police. During this raid, cash totaling $67,760 was confiscated. So were 57 gaming machines deemed to meet the specifications of gambling devices. They were not games of skill. The lounge did not hold any type of gaming license or permit. No one was arrested in the raid. Yet, local Berks County law enforcement officials expect individual charges to be filed. The illegal casino has been in operation since last December. An anonymous complaint was lodged this past February. However, the coronavirus pandemic held up the investigation.
Dover Downs Sportsbook Returns to Action in Delaware
The coronavirus pandemic closed down land-based gambling venues across the nation in mid-March. Delaware’s three casino, racetrack and sportsbook facilities were part of that group. While the casinos were able to reopen in June, the sportsbooks remained closed. As of July 23, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino was once again taking sports bets. Patrons must follow strict health and safety protocols. Sports bets are placed at stand-alone terminals. Actual employees will payout winning tickets. The road to recovery is underway but some severe damage to revenue figures has been done. One bright side has been the impressive growth in the state’s online gaming numbers this summer.

A New York Lawyer is Charged With 21 Counts in Lottery Scam
Known as the “Lottery Lawyer”, 46-year old Jason Kurland is in serious trouble with the law. He allegedly scammed a trio of lottery winners out of $107 million. The winner of a record $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot in 2018 was among this group. Kurland convinced the winners to invest in business interests owned by a trio of co-defendants. In return, he would receive cash kickbacks. The FBI New York is involved in the case along with the US Department of Justice.
