2020’s Music City Bowl will have a showdown between the Iowa Hawkeyes and Missouri Tigers. Iowa will attempt to extend their current three year bowl winning streak as they face a competitive Tigers team.
Date: December 30, 4 p.m. ET
Stadium: Nissan Stadium, Nashville
Watch On: ESPN
Iowa Hawkeyes (6-2)
The Hawkeyes almost had a perfect season on their hands at the beginning of the year. With a couple of early close games, they had a 24-20 loss to Purdue and a 21-20 loss to Northwestern in October.
Since the 0-2 straight up (and 0-1-1 against the spread), Iowa has been able to win their next six straight with a 5-1 record against the spread. They also won those six games by an average of 21.8 points.
Iowa finished the regular season having the 13th best scoring defense in the nation, as they only allowed 16 points per game. Their defense was recently noticed in the team’s 28-7 victory against the Wisconsin Badgers, coming into the game as one point home underdog in the last matchup of the season.
Iowa can also put up big numbers on offense. They have been able to average 31.8 points in their eight games and never had a score lower than 20 points.
Missouri Tigers (5-5)
Missouri appeared to have their defense figured out in November when they went 2-0 straight up and even against the spread. In those matchups, they had a 17-10 road victory against South Carolina and very solid 41-0 win at home against Vanderbilt.
However, you would not be able to notice in their last three games as they are 1-2 straight up and even 0-3 against the spread.
In those games, they are averaging 50 points allowed per contest. One can only wonder how this next matchup can go, as Iowa is a prolific offensive squad.
Quarterback Connor Bazelak leads the Tigers with 2,366 total yards and is ranked 20th in the nation in that regard. However, he only has seven touchdowns and six interceptions so he has had trouble converting to scoring opportunities and has been bailed out by a solid running game from teammates.

Iowa has proven to put forth a great balance of offense and defense. They might even make this an ugly game for Connor Bazelak, so Missouri will most likely heavily rely upon running back Larry Roundtree III.
Even then, Iowa has held opponents on average to roughly 108 rushing yards a game. This combination of defensive stops will put a lot of pressure on the Tigers.
Overall, Iowa looks very appealing at a two touchdown lead. However, they have the potential to extend this even further and have a great performance on the horizon.
