The Detroit Red Wings will head to Chicago to play the Blackhawks in a Discover Central Division matchup. Puck drop for this game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. eastern from the United Center.
The Red Wings are coming off one of their worst seasons in franchise history. The Blackhawks found their way into the bubble for the 2020 playoffs, but were eliminated in the first round by the Golden Knights.
Detroit Red Wings Betting Preview: Staying consistent.
The Red Wings are off to a 2-2 start. They will be departing for Chicago to head out on their first road trip of this young season, after getting to play their first four games at home.
Detroit’s offseason was filled with multiple moves, but the biggest may have been the signing of Bobby Ryan. While in Detroit his time on ice is not quite as high as it was with Ottawa, he has already been able to score at least one goal in all three of the games he has played in.
A need has been filled with Ryan coming to Detroit, as the Red Wings only had one player score over 20 goals last season. The Red Wings also got some veteran leadership in signing Marc Staal, who has played in the NHL since 2007. General Manager Steve Yzerman has to be happy with the direction the team is moving.
The Red Wings also have been looking to mix it up in the goalie position, adding Thomas Greiss from the Islanders. He has not had the best start, 0-2, but in seven seasons as an NHL goalie, Greiss has never had a losing record at the end of the season.
Chicago Blackhawks Betting Preview: Is it time for a full rebuild?
The Blackhawks can not seem to do anything right so far this season. Off to an 0-4 start, this is the franchise’s worst start since 1997. Chicago is giving up 5 goals a game, good enough for last in the NHL.
Chicago is obviously hurting with their main leader, Jonathan Toews, now listed on the long term Injured Reserve list. This offseason, Toews told the team that he would not be returning to the team due to some health concerns he was having. They are also without Kirby Dach and Alex Nylander for extended time.
Through four games this season, the Blackhawks have only scored nine goals. The biggest question mark they have is whether they are going to start moving players and wash their hands of this season.
Red Wings vs. Blackhawks Betting Odds and Lines:
BetOnline has the Blackhawks coming into this game at -125 and the over/under is set at 6.
The Blackhawks have already tried three different goalies with starts. At this point, only Kevin Lankinen was able to make it to overtime, before eventually losing. If Chicago continues rotating, it would be Lankinen’s turn in the net tonight.
The Red Wings are coming off a big over time win against Columbus. They have yet to surrender more than three goals in a game which speaks volumes when the opposing team is giving up five a game.
