LSU football appears to be the team to beat for an elite 2021 linebacker.
2021 four-star linebacker/defensive end Naquan Brown is one of the highest-rated players in the state of Virginia and LSU football could be the team to beat for his commitment.
Brown, 6-foot-3/205 lbs from Virginia Beach, VA (Ocean Lakes), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 7 player in the state of Virginia and the No. 11 weakside defensive end in the nation.
The Virginia native has notable offers from LSU, Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech, among several others.
Rivals recruiting analyst Mike Farrell discussed Brown’s recruitment this week and he predicted that Ed Orgeron and the Tigers will end up landing the talented defender.
“I felt Penn State would be the pick here early because of how well they have been recruiting Virginia but LSU has roared in here and taken control. The Hokies have an outside chance but I’m betting on Ed Orgeron,” said Farrell.
What would LSU football get in Brown?
Brown is described by 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn as a player who “offers position flexibility as [a] defensive end or outside linebacker” with “plus athleticism”.
Dohn also notes that Brown “plays fast and is fearless” and is “willing to sacrifice [his] body to make play”. He also predicts that Brown will be a “multi-year starter at Top 20 program”.
I think Brown is the type of player that could thrive at LSU — especially if he adds some weight.
Brown’s versatility could make him a player that fits perfectly in Bo Pelini’s “attacking style defense”. Not only can Brown get after the quarterback, but he could also drop into coverage if needed.
LSU’s 2021 recruiting class currently has 11 commits and is ranked No. 11 in the nation.
